Thor, the protector of Midgard, was sometimes referred to as 'Red Thor' this may have referred to his Red Hair or ruddy complexion.
Matt has used this descriptor and the idea of Thor as more of a god of common folk and created this Thor in the form of a classic communist poster style image.
