The Helm of awe (Icelandic - Ægishjálmur), or Helm of Terror, Is mentioned as an item in the Saga of the Volsungs, though no image of it can be found from the Viking era. The symbol as we know it today was first found in an Icelandic grimoire as a magical rune.

To many modern followers of Asatru, Heathenry and Paganism it seen as a powerful symbol of protection and victory.
